Short answer
Official Badlands terrain: Nasdara, ~267 km², largest official DayZ map, arid spring in western Takistan. Cities, Soviet bases, oil, ruins, no Chernarus ports.
The land
Nasdara is a fully inland desert-themed wasteland: dense cities, abandoned Soviet-era military, historical sites, highways, oil drills and refineries, scars from proxy wars. Bohemia says it is not a port of an old Arma terrain. Neighbour in the lore: Chernarus to the east, Takistan around it.
Size
267 km² is the official figure — bigger than Chernarus. That is a lot of empty if you sprint stupid. Levi would pick one highway and one town and learn them before touring the province.
Tone
Arid spring. Heat and water scarcity are the pitch, not pine forest and wells every village. Bring the Badlands brain, not the Elektro brain.
